The Media Blog: We are actually excited about the new Fifty series

We know ‘Fifty’ the movie had a lot of ‘haters’, mostly converging upon the alleged lack of a story. That’s okay. The movie made itself vulnerable to the critique.

Even though insiders told us at the time that the characters were not deepened deliberately because it was always planned to give way to a series, it had a duty to connect with the viewers on this point, and it appears it didn’t do that successfully. So the criticism has legitimacy.

Finally, the series is here, after months being shot in South Africa.

Dakore Akande, Iretiola Doyle and Omoni Oboli remaining in the series is good news. We will miss Nse Ikpe-Etim though. And Akin Omotoso replacing Biyi Bandele is excellent news, because he has a knack for laying waste to great ideas from the evidence of both Fifty and Half of a Yellow Sun.

The series premieres on EbonyLife TV on the 27th of this month. We are counting down.
