The Media Blog: Americans have no trust in their media – as usual

Over the past few years, trust in America’s media has continued to trend downwards – on track to hit zero at sometime in the near future, we should be able to safely predict.

According to a new Gallup poll, trust in the media this year has dropped to its lowest point since 1972, when Gallup began to track trust and confidence in the media. .

Only 32% of respondents across the country have any kind of faith in the media, but out of even this small number, some of them only have “a fair amount”.

It is important to note that 32% is a whopping 8% drop since last year.

“This is easily the lowest confidence among Republicans in 20 years,” Gallup says. “Before 2004, it was common for a majority of Americans to profess at least some trust in the mass media, but since then, less than half of Americans feel that way.”

The media in America has clearly taken sides in successive elections since Bush, tacking ever closely to their sides of the election, and also suffering the constant drip of attacks by candidates who have learnt to use the media as a foil.

“Now, only about a third of the U.S. has any trust in the Fourth Estate, a stunning development for an institution designed to inform the public.”

Of course, we are talking about America because you people don’t have any such data for Nigeria.

Unless someone reads this and decides to provide the funds, so that we at TMB can make that magic happen.

Yeah? Hit us up.
