The Media Blog: What Biola Alabi did next – already has a Season II

You know Biola Alabi of course. She is the former managing director of MNet responsible for hits from the Africa Magic channel explosion (including, of course, the Yoruba channel) to the Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards (AMVCAs).

And you may know that she has launched Biola Alabi Media (with a partner), which is essentially a media content production and consultancy company that is headquartered in Onikan, Lagos.

They are the producers of the hit new show, Bukas & Joints, where Olisa Adibua and his big pot belly go around bukas, joints (and eventually, we hear, cafes and restaurants) across the country and ultimately outside Nigeria – sampling staple and exotic Nigerian foods.

[Aside: This has brought a huge bump for Olisa’s likeability. No mean feat, if you ask us].

Finding a mass audience, the show is broadcast from the AIT platform. We also like the ad spend deployment – Coca Cola, Heritage Bank and others going beyond typical adverts spots to both own the content and creatively deploy material.

Season II started on Sunday, Olisa hitting bukas across Surulere and Aguda. We like this show. A few niggly things here and there. But it’s coming up nicely. Have you seen it?
