A 35-year-old barber, Shamsu Isah has been arrested by policemen in Kano for allegedly killing a 21-year-old woman at the Karkasara quarters in the Kano metropolis.
The Kano State Police Command Public Relations Officer, Magaji Majiya, confirmed the arrest of the suspect in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria in Kano.
The PRO said the deceased, Rejoice Isaac, was allegedly murdered by the suspect on August 3 and buried in an uncompleted building at Karkasara Quarters.
Majiya said that the suspect who took them to the building confessed to burying the deceased but said he did not kill her.
He said, “The suspect confessed to burying Isaac but denied killing her. He had attempted to rape her but as she was trying to run away, she was hit by a wood on the head and that led to her death.
“We invited doctors from the Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital to conduct autopsy on the deceased’s body. We are now waiting for the result.”
According to Majiya the Police Commissioner, Rabi’u Yusuf, had ordered the transfer of the suspect from the Special Anti-kidnapping Unit to the Criminal Investigation Department for appropriate investigation.
He said, “The suspect is currently with the police undergoing interrogation to ascertain the cause of the deceased’s death.’’
He said as soon as investigation was completed the suspect would be charged to court.
