A study has revealed that almost half of Brits admit to having had sex in a car – and impressively, 3 per cent of them admitted they’d done it while the vehicle was moving!
The survey was carried out by car remanufacturer BBA Remain, whose founder Chris Swan said the survey polled over 2,000 people to discover that Britain is less prudish than some may think. The most popular place to have sex in a car was at a viewpoint, followed by in a car park and on a driveway.
Swan also said they survey highlighted a generation gap, with older people more likely to have had sex in a car. “Nowadays, it is much more acceptable for younger unmarried couples to share a bed compared to 20 or 30 years ago when they had to sneak away for some fun.”
But which are the most popular cars to have sex in? A new study reveals all, giving new meaning to the description of a car as ‘sexy’.
1 – Ford Fiesta (29%) – most popular cars to have sex in
The Ford Fiesta is Britain’s best selling car and, in recent years, has rarely relinquished its position as our favourite motor in the SMMT monthly sales charts.
With more than four million on our roads, its thus the car most likely to have been the venue for one of our favourite pastimes. Another proud number one Ford can boast about.
2 – Volkswagen Golf (27%) – most popular cars to have sex in
The Volkswagen Golf is a favourite in Europe but, while popular in Britain, hasn’t traditionally sold in such huge numbers as other family hatchback.
Is it thus the car or the owners it attracts that make it the second most likely motor to have sex in?
3 – Vauxhall Corsa (23%) – most popular cars to have sex in
The Vauxhall Corsa replaced the Nova in 1992 and, while it rarely outsells the Fiesta, is popular enough to have been the motor Brits say they’re third most likely to have had sex in.
The firm has worked to make the Corsa sexy ever since its launch, mind. Who remembers the ‘supermodel’ ad campaign, which saw Naomi Campbell, Christy Turlington and Kate Moss join forces to launch the car with a bang?
4 – Mini (21%) – most popular cars to have sex in
More than one in five Brits say they have had sex in a Mini. To us, this reveals a particular tenacity from 21 per cent of the population: the Mini is, um, mini inside.
It’s not clear whether it’s the new MINI (which is tiny inside) or the original Mini (which is, well, indescribably tiny). Either way, it’s good to see the famous British stoicism is alive and well.
5 – Renault Clio (18%)
Renault Clio adverts have progressively become more and more suggestive over the years and it seems the nation has responded in kind, with 18 per cent of us having had sex in one.
The firm will be chuffed it’s beaten arch-rival Peugeot in the sex-in-cars stakes too: three per cent more people have had sex in a Clio than in a Peugeot 205 – and the more modern 206 and 207 are nowhere. Were they simply less sexy?
6 – Peugeot 205 (15%)
The Peugeot 205 stopped production in the 1990s: either memories are long or the 205 is just a particularly memorable car to have sex in – 15 per cent of Brits say they have done so.
Of course, the 205 GTI was one of the best hot hatchbacks ever built. Suggesting some sort of link between speed and sex?
7 – Ford Escort (11%)
In the 1980s, the Ford Escort was Britain’s best selling car. It’s still the seventh most popular car Brits admit to having sex in, despite going out of production in 2003.
Clearly many young couples still remember fully utilising the roomy rear of the Escort even if they didn’t yet have a family.
8 – Volvo V70 (8%)
Eight per cent of Brits show great commonsense when it comes to having sex in cars. The massive Volvo V70 estate is the eighth most popular car to have sex in and when you consider the advantages of that long, flat rear section for this, it’s hard to deny the logic.
Dare we mention safe sex, too?
9 – Nissan Micra (5%) –
Another supermini in the top 10, and the Nissan Micra shakes off its dull and dreary image here with an added dose of sexiness.
Some would add the famous reliability of the Micra bolsters reassurance because no matter how remote the location for sex, those taking part know it will always start first time and get them back to civilization.
10 – Vauxhall Astra (5%)
While the Vauxhall Astra is another car that’s not particularly sexy, this hasn’t stopped 1 in 20 British having sex in one.
More than twice the number of people admit to having had sex in a Ford Escort than a Astra though, which is perhaps a statistic that will annoy Vauxhall. Or maybe not.
