Music legend, George Benson set to storm Nigeria

by Stanley Azuakola

Fans of American music legend, George Benson, have something big to look forward to, as the star is expected to visit the country soon.

The multiple-award winner, who’s won a total of ten Grammys, will be performing in Lagos, Nigeria on October 13 at the third annual Love Music, Love Life luxury concert.

Tickets for the event, which is being put together by Smooth 98.1 FM, will be on sale at The Jazzhole, 168 Awolowo Road, Ikoyi, Lagos.

The 69-year old Benson has had a most successful music career, spanning over five decades. By the mid to late 1970s, he began to put his vocals on tracks such as This Masquerade and On Broadway, which earned him a Grammy Award.

His triple-platinum album Breezin was top of the billboard 200 Chart in 1976, while his breakthrough pop album Give Me The Night ruled the R & B Top 10 Charts for many months at a stretch, with the songs Love Times Love and Give Me The Night produced by Quincy Jones.

Benson also recorded the original version of Greatest Love Of All for the 1977 Muhammed Ali biopic, The Greatest, which was later recorded as a cover by Whitney Houston. In 2009, Benson recorded and released the album Songs and Stories. His most recent album is Guitar Man, a 12-song collection that includes a mix of jazz and pop staples, which was released in 2011.
