N4.7bn: EFCC urges court to issue arrest warrant against Ladoja

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Friday prayed a FederalHigh Court in Lagos, presided over by Justice Mohammed Idris to issue a warrant for the arrest of former Governor of Oyo State, Senator Rashidi Ladoja over alleged N4.7bn money laundering.

The EFCC also applied for an arrest warrant for Ladoja’s media aide, Chief Waheed Akanni.

Counsel to the EFCC, Oluwafemi Olabisi told the court that the accused had failed to honor the agency’s invitation and deliberately stayed away from court.

He urged the court to issue the warrant as the trial cannot go on without the suspect in court.

Ladoja’s lawyer, Bolaji Onilenla said his client’s appeal against the charges was still pending at the Supreme Court.

Onilenla also pointed out that Ladoja has not been properly informed about the reopening of the case.

The former governor was arraigned in 2008 alongside Akanbi but appealed the charges at the Supreme Court.

The apex Court in 2015 dismissed the appeal for being incompetent, but Ladoja filed an application seeking to re-list the appeal.
