A 15 year old California girl is being called courageous for quickly hiding in a closet and calling police when  burglars arrived at her home, giving police time to arrive.

Doyin Oladipupo was home alone when she first heard the doorbell ring, followed by the security alarm, indicating that an intruder had made their way inside the home. That’s when the teenager went into action, taking off her shoes so that she wouldn’t make noise and grabbing a phone.

The quick thinking teen called her mother and 911 before heading to a closet to hide under a rack of clothes. While the 15 year old was in the closet, she remained on the line with the 911 dispatcher, providing the dispatcher with updates. Instead of talking, the 911 dispatcher allowed the teen to communicate with her by tapping on the phone. ‘Can you tell me you understand by tapping the phone …………?’ the dispatcher says. .

Although Oladipupo remained calm, she says she was worried that the burglars would spot her bright blue nail polish.

‘I just didn’t know what to think,’ she later recounted to the San Diego Union-Tribune. ‘I thought it was a bad dream and I was going to wake up.’

At one point the burglars entered the closet and stole jewelry and other items, but at no time did they spot Oladipupo.

‘I just seriously can’t believe they didn’t see me or didn’t hear me or anything,’  a stunned Oladipupo recalls.

The dispatcher alerted the teen when police entered her home, then officers called out to the teen alerting her that it was safe to come out of the closet. Police arrested all three burglars, two of whom were only 17.
