Naomi Edor: Finding ‘something’ (30 Days, 30 Voices)

”Something is knowing whether you want to be with someone, either out of loneliness or love, it is knowing that you are comfortable with yourself and you enjoy your company enough, before letting someone into that space; it’s learning that being emotionally independent isn’t so bad.”

I was told, “There is something in nothing” and honestly I was pissed off and blinded by my anger, I really couldn’t understand what it meant, until I met nothing; that was when I realised the something in it.

I came across a picture that put it all into perspective. Nothing is very familiar but emotionally draining because of the loneliness, the sadness, the ‘almost going crazy’ syndrome that comes with it, but then Nothing is a phase, a phase one must go through to recognize and appreciate Something.

When we can handle having Nothing; no true friends, no lover to lean on, no family physically present to make all your problems seem not so serious, and all the other good things, then you can appreciate Something.

Something is knowing that instead of panicking, you could simply pray and know time will pass and all will be good again. Something is knowing whether you want to be with someone, either out of loneliness or love, it is knowing that you are comfortable with yourself and you enjoy your company enough, before letting someone into that space; it’s learning that being emotionally independent isn’t so bad. Something means knowing that you can be your own friend.

Don’t beat yourself up when people push you away, look for that Something hidden in that moment of Nothing.
