N’Assembly aides protest death of colleague due to non-payment of salaries

National Assembly aides on Tuesday protested over the death of their colleague due to non-payment of salaries.

According to the aides, the deceased could not pay hospital bills due to irregular payment of salaries and allowances by the National Assembly Management.

The deceased, Hassan Abiodun was attached to the Office of the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yusuf Lasun.

He was said to have suffered appendicitis and was admitted in an Abuja hospital and was later scheduled for surgery on June 5, 2017.

Abiodun, however, died from ruptured appendicitis on June 9 when he allegedly could not pay the N165,000 bill for the surgery.

Senate President, Bukola Saraki reportedly sent his Deputy Chief of Staff, Gbenga Makanjuola, to address the protesters.

Chief Press Secretary to Saraki, Sanni Onogu, later said Saraki had summoned the National Assembly Management to a meeting on the matter.
