‘I don’t understand the Niger Delta Avengers… who are they?’ – VP Osinbajo

Following a list of demands made by the Niger Delta Avengers as conditions to stop attacking oil installations, Vice President Yemi Osibanjo, on Monday, stated that he has no idea of any demands made by the militants.

The Vice President said this while speaking with newsmen at the end of his tour of the Dangote Petrochemical and Refinery Project located in Lekki, Lagos.

When he was questioned on the demands made by the militants, Osinbajo said: “What demands? I don’t understand the Niger Delta Avengers. Who are they? I don’t know anything about demands.”

Osinbajo described the Dangote refinery as a daring and inspiring project, saying that the project was a major strategic asset to the nation.

“I think it is an incredible industrial undertaking. It is possibly the largest and the most ambitious on the continent today. It is truly inspiring. The refinery is expected to start in the first quarter of 2019. But I think the subsea gas pipeline, which is a very important and strategic project, is meant to take off in 2018.”

Osinbajo noted that the refinery will have several advantages including boosting the power situation in the country.

“That is huge. If you consider that our current requirement is probably in the order of two billion scf per day. This is incredible. If that can be done, it is a major strategic asset for Nigeria. It will boost our power supply tremendously.”

“For me, that is one of the most important projects that could be done in this country and certainly going to be a major boost for industries.”

“It (the gas pipeline) is fortified and goes deep into the sea. It is not a sort of thing that anybody goes to vandalise because of the way that it is designed. As a matter of fact, it is designed to prevent vandalism.”
