A Nigerian national, John Okoro, has been jailed in the Ireland’s city of Galway for persistently driving without insurance while knowing he was disqualified.

Okoro, father of five, was jailed for ten months.

The 44 year old Business student appeared before Galway District Court charged with driving without insurance on June 8 last year.

The latest offence was detected last June when Okoro drove to the Garda Immigration office at Liosban Industrial Estate, Tuam Road, Galway to renew his residential status in this country.

Defence solicitor, Tomas McHale said his client was a mature final year business student who hoped to attract Nigerian companies to set up businesses here.

Judge Mary Fahy said it was an outrage that Okoro would drive to the Garda immigration office knowing he had been disqualified from driving by not one, but two court orders.

She said he didn’t think much of the laws of this country and had totally ignored them by persistently driving.
