‘No Itsekiri son involved in arms deal scandal’ – FG

The federal government has revealed that no Itsekiri native was implicated in the ongoing investigation into the diversion of arms funds by the last administration.

Several politicians, industrialists, traditional rulers and religious leaders in attendance as the 20th Olu of Warri, Ikenwoli Gbesimi Emiko 1 was crowned on Saturday in coastal Ode-Itsekiri, Delta State.

The president of the country, Muhammadu Buhari was represented by the Secretary to The Government of the Federation, David Lawal.

While extolling the virtues of the tribe, Lawal said the non-involvement of Itsekiri in the arms funds fraud, shows the integrity and character of the ethnic group.

The President further urged the new king to be like his predecessor who was an advocate of peace at all times and make sure that all issues that might escalate into crisis are ironed out before they do so.

He said: “This kind of event sometimes happens once in a decade. We commend the late Olu for the quick resolution of crisis and we are grateful for the peaceful transition. Our prayer is that the new king should emulate the last.

“You have produced people that have helped to move the nation forward. The new Olu should not abdicate the responsibility to ensure peace.

“Among all the scandals and pilfering, no Itsekiri son is involved. This is a testimony to your strength of character and integrity.”
