Kevin Lewis, spokesman of former President Barack Obama has said allegations by President Donald Trump that he tapped his phones before the Presidential elections was false.

Trump had made the allegation on Twitter on Saturday describing Obama’s action as a “new low”.

But Lewis said allegations that Obama “ordered surveillance on any US citizen” was false.

He said Obama never allowed any White House official interfere in any Justice Department investigations, which are supposed to be conducted free of political influence.

“As part of that practice, neither Obama nor White House official ever ordered surveillance on any US citizen. Any suggestion otherwise is false,” Lewis said.

Trump had tweeted, “Is it legal for a sitting President to be “wire tapping” a race for president prior to an election? Turned down by court earlier. A NEW LOW!

“I’d bet a good lawyer could make a great case out of the fact that President Obama was tapping my phones in October, just prior to Election!

“How low has President Obama gone to tap my phones during the very sacred election process. This is Nixon/Watergate. Bad (or sick) guy!”

Trump also accused Obama’s White House of hosting Russian Ambassador Sergey Kisylak 22 times.

He tweeted, “The first meeting Jeff Sessions had with the Russian Ambassador was set up by the Obama Administration under education programme for 100 Ambassadors,” he tweeted.

“Terrible! Just found out that Obama had my “wires tapped” in Trump Tower just before the victory. Nothing found. This is McCarthyism!

“Just out: The same Russian Ambassador that met Jeff Sessions visited the Obama White House 22 times, and 4 times last year alone.
