As Nigerians are celebrating the democracy, many people have expressed what this day means to them, reflecting on how far we have come as a nation and where we are headed as it concerns the idea of democracy in Nigeria. In a fresh trend, however, Nigerians have taken to social media to talk about the update on Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, and the drama that is currently happening in his political party APC.
The All Progressives Congress(APC) Screening Committee for the Edo Governorship Election disqualified Governor Godwin Obaseki from contesting the primary poll.
Wow! So the @OfficialAPCNg has disqualified Governor Godwin Obaseki? My counsel to Mr. Obaseki is to immediately cross over to the @OfficialPDPNig. You can’t get justice in General @MBuhari’s party. What happened to @AkinwunmiAmbode may happen to you! Move fast!#BuhariTormentor

While his disqualification is coming as a shock for many, there are however, some reasons, according to some Twitter users that led up to his disqualification. Reacting to the disqualification, Nigerians took to Twitter to talk about this update and especially as today is the celebration of democracy in Nigeria.
Imagine disqualifying a sitting Governor on democracy day. What made Obaseki qualified in 2016, What made Ambode qualified in 2015? Why the acronym APC should stand for All Progressive Congress but their party is never progress.#ElectoralReformsNow

PDP boys on TwitterNg and their allies on the fence are now supporting Governor Obaseki of APC? Lmaooo. Politics mad.

Oshiomhole’s rascality in APC: I won’t appeal outcome of unjust screening — Obaseki https://t.co/BK0o4PVsyF

OBASEKI DISQUALIFIED: I knew this was going to be the outcome of that kangaroo committee. APC should be careful in protecting Oshiomole's interest as against Edo peoples interest. Imagine celebrating #DemocracyDay without practicing internal democracy. APC is a fraud.#Obaseki pic.twitter.com/JTOVSk5LEN

No like you all have any respect for "paramount rulers" of the party. The party raised about 4 reconciliation committees, Obaseki rejected them all & even threatened some not to set foot in Edo. He went about revoking COs of party members & demolishing their buildings. Enjoy. https://t.co/AsvLzng7Iq

Some Twitter users pointed out that even though it’s all politics, there exists a certain level of politics in the party as they traced similar actions that happened with former Lagos State governor, Ambode. Although, the party is yet to share the reasons why the governor was disqualified, many believed that it is the said politics that exists in the party that led to this moment.
Ambode reach primaries…
Obaseki no even reach venue not to talk of primaries… this life no balance

On Nigeria’s Democracy Day, a seating Governor is disqualified from re-contesting for the same office by the same party that presented him the first time. What a way to mark the June 12 annulment. Obaseki on his part kept swimming against the tide. https://t.co/JTSdtW10ff

You never acknowledged good work of @OfficialAPCNg in Edo state but after disqualification of Obaseki you start to hype him that he has done great work in Edo, you guys are mad.
— MiliSango (@militaryblower) June 12, 2020
That's a bold move by APC on Obaseki. I read somewhere that Supreme Court mentioned that it would not involve itself in screening procedures of political parties.
Grab your popcorn.

Some users shared that this event brings back the memories of the June 12 annulment of election results in Nigeria. Also, a few Nigerians advised the governor to defect to PDP and see if he will stand a chance as they pointed out that it is his disloyalty to the party that led to his demise.
Na we dey allow things happen for this country, cos we are traitors to ourselves. The disunity existing here is inherited. #Obaseki @OfficialAPCNg

Obaseki is in a cross bar after disqualification by APC gubernatorial screenning committee, Obaseki can eat his disloyalty balls now as he's now in the hand of unkown.

However, in a recent update, the governor has shared that he will not appeal the disqualification which made many still stress on the point that the APC has used their power against the governor.
