Following the last PDP gathering, (inauguration was it?), claims about the country’s main opposition party have been making rounds and we all know who started it don’t we? Yes, former president Olusegun Obasanjo.
Upon hearing rumours that he had attended the event, he quickly responded saying: “If I quit a party when it was alive and seemingly united, how could I go back to a now divided, factionalized party gasping for breath?”
The PDP spokesperson has since denied the said statement on behalf of the former president while also confirming the pulse rate of his party or something like that. The point though is that our ex-president thinks his former party is dying and here are four reasons why he is exactly the cause:
- That careless manner of speaking that he is famous for, and with which he ruled the country and his party. That’s a legacy I’m sure many of the current party leaders including Ali-Modu Sheriff and Makarfi have imbibed. It’s definitely a reason why it must be difficult for the party to reach a consensus on anything.
- He championed the policy of zoning leadership (at every level) and if anything, that is got to be one of the reasons the PDP is currently “gasping for breath”.
- He gifted us the past administration and its consequent hold on the country’s growth. For that alone, I’d say he is the cause of everything!
- We need a viable opposition party in Nigeria and PDP isn’t living up to what it should. Baba can fix that, but he won’t. So how is he not the cause of the party’s death?
