#PanamaPapers: 100 Nigerians, companies to be exposed today

Names of more than 100 Nigerians involved in the Panama Papers scandal will be made public on Thursday, says Premium Times, the only Nigerian news outlet that was involved in the international investigation.

The Panama Papers scandal revolves around secret documents leaked from the office of shady Panamanian law firm, Mossack Fonsecca.

The law firm is infamously known for creating anonymous offshore shell companies in tax havens for individuals around the world, who go on to use the companies for different activities including money laundering and hiding of assets.

The names to be released by Premium Times will include top public officials, politicians, business persons, companies and the country where the shell companies are incorporated or registered.

According to the Editor-in-Chief of Premium Times, Dapo Olorunyomi, the names will be released in response to demands by Nigerians.

He further stated that the matter was a global issue that has exposed the activities of corrupt individuals.

Olorunyomi said: “Our team will keep digging into the database. As more revelations become public, we will make them public.”

The paper has for the past month, released names of individuals involved in the scandal.

Some of those named in the scandal thus far are: former Senate President, David Mark, his successor, Bukola Saraki, and wife; National Leader of the All Progressive Congress, Bola Tinubu, jailed former governor of Delta state, James Ibori, billionaire businessmen, Aliko Dangote, Theophillus Danjuma, Saayu Dantata; popular pastor and prophet, T.B Joshua.
