Pipelines attacks: FG should speedily constulitute dialogue team

Leader of the Pan Niger Delta Forum, Chief Edwin Clark has urged the Federal Government to speedily constitute a dialogue team to put an end to hostilities in the region.

Clark said this during a press briefing organized by the group in Warri on Friday.

Clark also decried the recent attacks on pipelines in the region despite efforts by leaders to broker peace with the government.

He stated that the recent blowing up of Trans-Forcados Pipeline operated by Nigerian Petroleum Development Company did not arise from grievance, but an act design to sabotage the present peace process.

He said, “We note with satisfaction that several armed agitators have accepted our intervention, and have, thus halted hostilities. We also note, with regrets that there are some newly emerging elements who have refused to join in the train of dialogue, and who are still embarking on nefarious activities of destruction of critical national assets entirely for their selfish interest.

“To this later group, we can only appeal to them to accept dialogue, and cease any further hostilities, for dialogue, which is a more profitable path to take.

“We urge Mr. President to promptly constitute government’s dialogue team, with the appropriate mandate to commence the process with our team, which shall be composed of an all-inclusive representation of critical segments from the region.”
