The Honorable Minister for Youth Development, Alhaji Bolaji Abdullahi will host a Twitter town hall meeting with Nigerian youth tomorrow September 8, 2011, between 3 and 5pm. The initiative, which strike as a first from a public office holder in the country, will serve as the first of many more to come from the ministry, the minister promised.
According to Emmanuel Okocha, the Special Assistant to the Minister, this will be “an interactive session between the minister and youths on twitter where the Minister can intimate the youth on his ideas and proposed key interventions. He will also be receiving feedback, comments and constructive criticism from the populace.”
A tweet from the Minister’s handle today reads; “I get some of the concerns. We can start by agreeing on the ground rules but it is your game, you are welcome to set the rules”
To participate, all you need to do is follow the twitter handle @BolajiAbdullahi and post your comments with the Hashtag #NGMYD.
Young Nigerians are already weighing in on the idea. @MrFixNigeria tweeted “Looking forward to the youth twitter conference on Thursday with the Minister” while @Anthony_Ekene was more effusive: “Thank you sir for this innovative initiative. I am eagerly looking forward to it,” he tweeted. A massive campaign has already began to get as many youths as possible to participate.
