The Police in Rivers State has banned the use of Supernumerary Police license plate numbers.

In a statement by the Police spokesperson in the state, Nnamdi Omoni, it also stated that the use of sirens in the state has been banned.

Omoni said the spy plate numbers and revolving lights were being used for criminal activities in the state.

“The Command is disturbed by this trend and henceforth warns those concerned to within the next seven (7) days remove the unauthorized Spy plate numbers and revolving lights or face Prosecution,” Omoni said.

He added that police officers have been authorized to impound vehicles who continue to use them.

The spy police are personnel who are recruited on temporary basis to fill the shortfall in the number of police officers.
