Policeman prosecuted for allegedly killing five traders decorated with new rank

The Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris on Wednesday decorated Ibrahim Danjuma with a new rank of Commissioner of Police.

Danjuma was prosecuted and acquitted for the extrajudicial killing of five Abuja traders and a lady in 2005.

Danjuma was among 15 new CPs recently promoted by the Police Service Commission on the recommendation of the IG.

What happened:

Danjuma was charged alongside Othman Abdulsalam, Nicholas Zakaria, Baba Emmanuel, Ezekiel Acheneje and Sadiq Salami as co-defendants for felony.

He had earlier been suspended from duty on account of the alleged extrajudicial killing.

Justice Ishaq Bello, of the FCT High Court found Danjuma, not guilty and acquitted him. Others were however sentenced to death.
