Politicians move to reduce importance of English in the EU

Three notable European politicians have made a move to reduce the prevailing importance of English in the EU, in favour of German.

The three powerful politicians stressed it would be a “good thing” if German and French take more prominence over the influence of English within the EU in the future.

They, however, proposed that fewer speeches, press conferences and publications should be produced in English, despite its wide application in the continent.

Their move will not be unconnected with a controversial statement by EU boss Jean-Claude Juncker who had made notable and concerted efforts to deliver more of his remarks and speeches in German and French and constantly grumbling when he is required to speak in English, said earlier this year that English was “losing importance” within the EU after Brexit.

Following this development, German MPs are actively proposing to the Chancellor Angela Merkel and EU bosses to ensure that English is used less often with their own language is deployed more.

The politicians wrote in a letter to Mrs Merkel, “In addition to the equal use of the German language as a working language in the bodies of the European Union and increased use in all international institutions, the German language especially needs to be thoroughly used in our own country.” – a move the chief of staff to the German Chancellor said has been on the discussion table for long.
