Acting President Yemi Osinbajo, as part of efforts to restore peace after the series of threats from Northern and South Eastern groups to Nigeria’s unity, is now meeting with Northern leaders in Aso Rock.

Last night, he joined the Northern traditional rulers in Iftar – the name for the evening meals taken by fasting Muslims.
Today’s meeting will however be attended by not only the Northern rulers and Professor Osinbajo. There’ll also be in attendance Speaker, Yakubu Dogara, Service Chiefs and top Ministers.
Professor Osinbajo is expected to deliver the message of unity and that no one group in Nigeria is more important that the other while engaging in dialogue with these leaders as he did on Sunday with the traditional rulers from the South East.
For a couple of weeks now, there have been hate messages sent by groups purporting to represent the interests of Northerners and Southeasterners asking that one group of people leave their respective places of business and residence back to their hometowns. These meetings with traditional rulers from each region are part of the Acting President’s efforts to restore much needed calm to an aggravated situation.
