‘Really, what’s your responsibility?’ || APC wants to know if GEJ is in control of the Armed Forces

For claiming he had no inkling about the election postponement, the All Progressives Congress Campaign Organisation (APCPCO), has requested President Goodluck Jonathan to, as a matter of urgency, clarify his position as the Commander-in-Chief of the Nigerian Armed Forces.

The campaign organisation of the opposition party says Jonathan’s admission proves that he no longer carries out his responsibility as the overall leader of the nation and its security outfits.

In a statement signed by the campaign’s director for media and publicity, Malam Garba Shehu, the APCCO stated that the presidential media chat of Wednesday, February 11, exposed the fact that the president was no longer in control.

The statement read: “President Jonathan claims that he had no idea about the plans to postpone the elections. Who then gave the command to the service chiefs to write the letter to Jega considering that the NSA’s line of reporting is directly and exclusively to the President? Did they write it without clearance from the commander-in-chief?”

“Who authorised them to make that presentation since the President claimed that he was not informed about the shift in the polls date, nay by extension the security issue that was raised by the security chiefs for the postponement of the polls?”

“Is the President telling the nation that the top brass of the military can act without his consent? If that is the case, what then is his constitutional responsibility as commander in chief?”

The APCCO added that the situation is a dangerous one for the country and its fledgling democracy, if service chiefs could now tacke actions without informing the president.
