Lithuania secured a nine-point victory over Nigeria’s D’Tigers this morning in the men’s basketball event.
However, the world’s third best team did not have an easy ride as the Nigerians showed they were no pushovers.
D’Tigers came into their second game in the tournament on the brink of losing 94-66 to Argentina, and many had expected same of the same with the Lithuanians running over the Nigerians.
But that was not the case as D’Tigers won the first quarter 16-13. The Nigerians equalised with a winning streak during the first half leading with 41-36.
Things changed in the third quarter as Lithuania turned the game around winning the third quarter 65-54.
D’Tigers captain Ike Diogu scored 19 points while Mike Umeh had 17 as the team fought hard to come back into the game but the Lithuanians held on to win 89-80.
