We have been trying to come to terms with the passing of Mayowa Ahmed, who had become a national symbol of hope – at least for the Nigerian internet.
Today, she passed on at a South African hospital after Nigerians raised money in the #SaveMayowa campaign to save her life and fight the ovarian cancer that sought to take it.
We continue to pay tribute to a woman whose life surely, and the fight in her, surely inspired many.
Many photos are across the internet, showing her in her most desperate state. We choose here to remember who she really was, before the pain, and before the despicable cancer.
She was gorgeous.
She clearly loved, and lived life.
There was a hint of mischief.
A clear sense of style.
And a supreme aura of self confidence – a girl whose life appeared stretched out far ahead of her.
#RIPMayowa. You will be missed.
