Ronaldo expresses joy he has another award but, Maradona says it “hurts his soul”

Real Madrid and Portugal star, Cristiano Ronaldo, has expressed joy at winning the #TheBest FIFA Men’s Player 2017 for the second consecutive time.

Ronaldo, 32, was named the winner on Monday, ahead of Barcelona’s Lionel Messi and Paris Saint-Germain‘s Neymar Jnr.

Thank you, a lot, to the guys who voted for me. I must also mention Leo and Neymar, for being here,” Ronaldo said after receiving the prize.

Real Madrid – the coach, the supporters and the president – they support all of the years so I say thank you to them.

I’m really glad to win consecutive awards. This is a great moment for me. Thank you to all the fans around the world for the support. I appreciate that, thank you very much.

It’s great to be here with these great players and I am so happy guys, thank you so much.”

But not everybody is happy with that development: Argentina’s Diego Maradona admitted it “hurt his soul” to hand the Best FIFA Men’s Player award to Cristiano Ronaldo and not to his compatriot Lionel Messi.

To give the Best [award] to Ronaldo and not be able to give it to Messi hurt my soul,” Maradona told TyC Sports.

Maradona, however, believes that Messi will continue to delight football fans for many years to come, adding: “He can go on for a long time.”
