There was pandemonium earlier on Wednesday when a shop filled with firecrackers exploded around Oroyiyin/Jankara area of Lagos Island.
The explosion happened around 9:30am.
The fire which came as a result of the explosion quickly spread to other shops causing panic among traders and shoppers alike.
“While security agencies (will) investigate and determine the real cause of the explosion and fire outbreaks, casualty figures are yet to be determined,” said Yushau Shuaib, a spokesman for Nigeria’s National Emergency Management Agency.
“Some residents who were injured while attempting to assist in putting off the fire have been taken to hospital for treatment.”
The casualty figure is yet to be ascertained.
