Samuel Eto’o has been stripped of the Cameroon national team captaincy.
The former Chelsea and Barcelona striker was left out of Volker Finke’s new-look squad announced last weekend and a new skipper was expected to be announced.
Three days later, the Camerooon Football Federation (Fecafoot), has confirmed Stephane M’Bia as their new captain.
“Stephane M’Bia [is the] senior national team captain,” the statement read.
“[He] will be respectively assisted by Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting and Vincent Aboubakar. M’Bia, Choupo-Moting and Aboubakar replace Samuel Eto’o, Nicolas N’Koulou and Eyong Enoh.”
Eto’o, who played just once at this year’s World Cup, is close to joining Premier League side Everton.
