Seized SUV: Customs refuse to appear before Senate committee

The Nigeria Customs Service on Tuesday failed to send an official to appear before the Senate Committee Ethics investigating the purchase of the vehicle with alleged fake National Assembly documents.

Chairman, Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges and Public Petitions, Senator Samuel Anyanwu said members of the committee waited for the customs boss but no one showed up.

He said a new date for the continuation of the investigative hearing may not be considered since the Customs boss was earlier invited for the hearing.

Anyanwu had announced that the Customs will be appearing before the committee on Tuesday.

Recall that there is presently a face off between the Senate and Customs boss, Hameed Ali over the issue of wearing uniform.

Ali had refused to appear before the upper chamber in uniform, stating that he was taking legal advice on the issue.

But the senators had insisted that he was a public officer and should always be in uniform.
