Senator Marafa continues his one-man fight against Saraki’s Senate

Embattled senator representing Zamfara-Central senatorial district, Kabir Marafa has described the report of the Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges and Public Petitions as unfair and one-sided after he stormed out of plenary on Tuesday, February 23.

The committee is investigating Marafa for allegedly granting an interview to mislead the public about the National Assembly and is set to mete out punitive measures after reportedly indicting him after discussions.

In reaction to a report by the panel which indicted him, Marafa told Punch Newspapers that he was disappointed in the panel for not hearing his own side of things before indicting him.

He dismissed the claims made by the clerk of the committee, Freedom Osolo that he refused to show up in front of the panel and decsribed the claims as a lie aimed at reaching a pre-set objective.

He said: “The decision of the committee to submit their report without listening to me is wrong. They also failed to demand from the clerk an evidence that he invited me to the meeting held on Monday where the decision to write their report was taken and finalised.”

“I was a member of the committee for four years and I know how we operated. They were supposed to ask the clerk who lied against me to show a proof of the invitation he sent to me. I did not receive any letter or text message from him, yet they believed him.”

The senator also dismissed reports that the SUF members had denied him over his ongoing disagreement with the upper echelon of the senate.

He added: “It was not true that members of the SUF had disowned me. I still remain their spokesperson and we met yesterday (Monday) to take a formal position on what our reaction will be whenever the Senate decides to debate on the report.”
