It’s been an interesting week. Buhari made his first trip to the East since he got elected President; Mugabe was allowed to breathe fresh air for a couple of hours by his captors and Serena Williams added another title to her name.
Come along and ogle or snort (whichever applies) at our top 10 photo collection of the week:
BAAD 2017
Because secrecy is Banky W and Adesua’s stock in trade, all we had to go on concerning this wedding of the year —that was rumoured to take place yesterday, which we now hear is today —are these cues by Adesua’s bestie, Linda Ejiofor.
It’s the bridesmaid’s roll call- or formation if you prefer.
A fairytale
Power couple, Serena Williams, 23-time Grand Slam Tennis player and Reddit co-founder of Reddit Alexis Ohanian tied the knot on Thursday.
Their quirky love story is one for the books.
PMB in the South East
President Buhari was in the East on Tuesday ahead of the Anambra gubernatorial elections. He was there to campaign for his man, Tony Nwoye, whom we understand did really poorly at the debate. Buhari was properly feted, with Chieftaincy titles and a statue (It wouldn’t be the East if there was no statue).
Super Eagles vs Argentina
Nigeria’s Super Eagles took on Argentina in a friendly match in Russia. Thanks to Alex Iwobi, Kelechi Iheanacho and Brian Idowu, Nigeria thrashed Argentina 4-2.
Busy Bee, Osinbajo
This week, Vice President Osinbajo tweeted: “Today, I presided over a Govt/Private sector meeting on how to resolve the Apapa traffic gridlock. Last week, I flew over the Apapa for an aerial assessment of the situation.”
If only we could fly over traffic in Lagos.
Italy’s state burial for Nigeria’s dead girls
26 Nigerian girls died while attempting to cross the Mediterranean Sea into Italy, and the only government who rose to the occasion and treated the girls with dignity was the Italian government.
This caused massive mourning across Twitter Nigeria.
BBOG’S Protest
It’s been 3 years, 6 months since 276 schoolgirls were kidnapped from school in their hometown of Chibok in Borno state. Some escaped and some were freed in two batches, leaving 113 still in Boko Haram captivity. Activism group, BBOG has been keeping the Federal Government on its toes with their protests.
They refuse to forget.
Anambra Decides
Anambra’s governorship elections held yesterday and there was the usual buying of votes with cooked rice, slippers, money etc. Political party, APC was fingered more than once as the culprit behind some these criminal acts.
Is this the magic Rochas was telling Buhari to use to win Anambra?
Robert Mugabe makes first appearance in Public
“Dour and preoccupied, the 93-year-old president could hardly raise a smile as scholars, joyful at their graduation, walked up and bobbed their heads in respect,” the Telegraph reports of President Mugabe’s first time in public since he became a captive of the military who intend to remove him from power.
The ceremony held on Friday’s at the Open University, alongside the sprawling suburb of Hatcliffe, 15 miles north of Harare. As chancellor of the University, Mugabe was there to cap graduates.
This is not the face of a pleased man.
Zimbabweans protest
Also infuriated at having a president who’s ruled all their lives, Zimbabweans finally took to the streets on Saturday in a mass protest to ensure the world knows exactly where they stand concerning Mugabe.
Now, you don’t need a wild guess.
So AU, please take several seats.
