[The Activism Blog] For BBOG, struggle continues for the Chibok girls

BBOG

The Bring Back Our Girls Group on Tuesday 14th November 2017 resumed its earlier suspended march to the State House to demand for the release of the girls abducted during 2014’s Chibok attacks.. 82 of them were released in a prisoner for captive deal between the federal government and the terrorist group in early 2017.

The usual sit out taking place at the unity fountain was suspended with the resumption of the March to the state house by the group. The Tuesday March was led by its leaders Dr Mrs Oby Ezekwesili and Mrs Aisha Yesufu with hundreds of members and volunteers.

Another dimension to the March this time around was the inclusion of the kidnapped lecturers of the Geology Department of the University of Maiduguri in their demands which has further expanded the scope of the group as not one for the Chibok girls alone but other casualties of the Boko-Haram crisis in the North Eastern Part of Nigeria.

As expected they were prevented from gaining access to the seat of government by police officers stationed to curtail their movement, a mild occurrence ensued when these police officers betrayed emotions as  Dr Ezekwesili made her presentation in which she made mention of their colleagues abducted by the Boko-Haram sect in Maiduguri few months ago by the sect.

The BBOG group has shown to us that there are Nigerians still driven by empathy, the group has experienced attacks and condemnations since the commencement of this campaign in the year 2014 yet they’ve not loose steam.

Those that were carried away with the illusion that it was positioned to paint the Goodluck Jonathan administration in bad light are now biting their fingers as the current government in power has received more dose of the BBOG Activism than the Jonathan’s Administration.

It’s evident the group was created for a good cause devoid of pecuniary gains which we all need to learn from in our bid to build a country that works.
