Shekarau declares intention to run for Presidency, writes PDP

Former minister of education, Ibrahim Shekarau, has indicated interest to run for the presidency in 2019 on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party.

Sule Ya’u Sule, his media aide said Shekarau has sent a letter to the PDP indicating his interest.

Background:

  • Ekiti State governor, Ayodele Fashola had officially launched his Presidential campaign.
  • Former Jigawa governor, Sule Lamido also wrote a letter to the PDP seeking permission to run under the platform.
  • The PDP had previously zoned the Presidential ticket to the North.

What Shekarau said:

“Malam Shekarau deliberately refused to make his ambition public because he does not want the relevant stakeholders to read it for the first time on the pages of newspapers. He first notified them before making it public. He is now making necessary consultations,” Sule said.

In the letter which he was said to have signed on August 22, Shekarau said has has been continuously urged to run for Presidency again.
