Shock and tributes as Nigerians mourn the demise of Ibidun Ighodalo

Sunday, for many started on a bright note especially as it marked for a good number, the last day for online services in anticipation of physical worship in their various churches in 7 days. This was however not the case for the family and loved ones of Pastor Ituah Ighodalo, Founder and Senior Pastor in Charge of Trinity House, Lagos.

News about the death of former Beauty Queen (Miss Lux) and wife to the Pastor, Ibidun Ighodalo hit social media early Sunday and a lot of Nigerians have taken to social media expressing shock as well as condolences to the family of the cleric.

Although official detail is yet to emerge on the cause of her death, there are indications that she may have died of a heart attack in her sleep in the early hours of Sunday in the Rivers State capital where she was said to have been helping with the building of isolation centres for COVID-19 patients for residents of the state and Bayelsa.

“The Ighodalo and Olaleye Ajayi families are deeply saddened to announce the sudden loss of our beloved wife and daughter Mrs. Ibidunni Ituah-Ighodalo who passed away in the early hours of today,” the statement announcing her demise as released by her family read.

“As you will understand, this is a difficult time for our families and we will appreciate some privacy during this time. All information of burial proceedings will be provided in due course,” it added.

My dearest Sisi, It’s been a Tough day, I have had several conversations in your honor today. I have tried to move out, distracting myself with so many other things but somehow I am pulled back into the heaviness, into the reality of your passing. I miss you already dear sister. I miss you already dear friend. I’d miss your hugs and whispers. I’d miss your dotting nature you shared without care. I’d miss your kindness, if generosity had a name it would be Ibidunni I’d miss watching your moments with Uncle Ituah. Your love was a standard and testament. I’d miss your perfection and excellence When you showed up, you spared nothing. Our last project together was one for the books. You spared nothing, you brought in an army, you thought of things I hadn’t even had the bandwidth to imagine. “Diffusers” she said, “we need to order for diffusers”. I thought diffusers for what? She said “oh, the smell, the ambience, the feeling we want people to get when they walk in”. I had never thought the nice smell that hits you when you walk into those venues were created intentionally beyond fresh flowers. I’d miss your attention to details, glamour and pizzazz. You were subtle yet a force You were overwhelming yet so gentle You were kind yet strictly professional You knew the game and played with heart In the middle of this pandemic you were still a winner You are a child of light and even in death you still won. Rest in power Sisi, I miss you already.

For others who didn’t have a personal relationship with her, they expressed admiration about spirit of sacrifice and philanthropy, the courage to share ‘her fertility story,’ and the aura she exuded.

Video clips from Instagram have also shown that her husband officiated the funeral service of 25-year-old Ayodeji Modupe-Johnson, Sunday afternoon where he confirmed that he received a call informing him of her demise at 2:00am.

The late Pastor Ibidun was to mark her 40th birthday on July 19. Passionate about Family and Women Development, she did a lot to bring emotional healing to hurting women and families through the teaching of God’s word, and was also at the forefront of giving hope to families waiting on God for the fruit of the womb, with the belief that parenting doesn’t have to be only via natural conception.

May God comfort her family and loved ones.
