Spanish officials want Cristiano Ronaldo punished for his celebration against Barcelona

FC Barcelona v Real Madrid CF - La Liga

President of Spain’s professional football league (LFP), Javier Tebas, has hinted that Real Madrid attacker Cristiano Ronaldo, could be sanctioned for his goal celebration last weekend.

The Portugal captain appeared to tell the home crowd to calm down, after he latched onto Karim Benzema’s flick to make it 1-1 at the Nou Camp.

Ronaldo has regularly been the subject of abuse himself and was roundly booed by Barca supporters during the El Clasico.

“We have to be careful with provocative gestures by a player when he scores a goal or with any other provocation or conduct that could incite violence among spectators,” Tebas told reporters on Tuesday.

“It must be sanctioned, from a fine up to a suspension. We will look into it.”

The authorities in Spain have been keen to crack down on offensive actions from players or fans, after a Deportivo La Coruna fan died in a fight before a league game in November.
