Following the accusation by the US government that three members of the House of Representative committed sexual misconducts, the Speaker of the House, Yakubu Dogara, on Saturday, took to social media to speak on the allegation.
According to a statement by Dogara’s Special Adviser (Media & Public Affairs), Turaki Adamu Hassan, the Speaker called on Nigerians to stop passing judgement on the accused persons and wait for the result of the ongoing investigations by the House.
While saying that “judgment can only be passed when an allegation is proven,” Dogara also said the members of the House involved in the scandal would have known not to bring shame on the House and Nigeria.
Dogara further said that the House will conduct full investigations into the matter, saying that “together with the US Embassy in Nigeria, we will get to the bottom of this matter”
The Speaker, however, noted that the petition brought by the US government had no evidence in it and that the three lawmakers involved have stated their resolve to defend their honor at all cost.
He said that the issue of attempted rape wasn’t contained in the petition he received but “we await the result of the investigation into the matter.”
