The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has asked the Federal Government to stop deducting from their salaries.

Coordinator, ASUU Akure Zone, Dr. Alex Odiyi said this while addressing journalists at the Federal University of Technology, Akure, Ondo State on Wednesday.

He said lecturers in both Federal and State universities in Nigeria had been experiencing shortfall in their salaries since December 2015.

He said certain percentage was being deducted from their salaries.

He described the government’s actions as corruption.

He said, “It is corrupt practices for a government to deny the full payment of workers’ wages and thus put to question the morality and credibility of the current anti-corruption campaign of President Muhammadu Buhari .

“ASUU Akure zone hereby declares that this trend of shortfalls in salaries as well as fractional payment are not acceptable to us and our colleagues in their branches and must stop immediately.

“It is only an uncaring government that takes pleasure in cheating its workers.

“We demand that the balance of all the shortfalls should be paid to the universities before the end of March 2017, so our deductions can be remitted to the appropriate quarters.”

He also accused Governing Councils and the administrators of the universities of not taking the issue seriously.
