We received satisfying news from the Presidency on Thursday, President Muhammadu Buhari has plans to reshuffle his cabinet and drop 10 ministers. The joy that comes from knowing that there are high chances Solomon Dalung may be moving out of our lives for good in 2017, is inexplicable.
It’s one reason and none other. We are tired of Solomon Dalung.
Barely two weeks after he told newsmen that “they did not expect the Super Falcons to emerge as champions at the AWCON finals, hence the lack of preparation of funds”, we assumed we had seen the worst of the Sports Minister for 2016. The Falcons had been paid their outstanding allowances so Dalung would not need to address the nation the rest of the year. He’d spare us of more BS, we thought.
But he came back and this time with greater damage, with the intent to make us even more ashamed than we already are of the crop of ministers President Buhari took six months to handpick.
Here’s a video where he answers to the House of Reps committee on Sports on the spending of the sports budget allocated to his ministry.
The one-liner that has everyone disappointed is “the funds spended were properly spended”.
Solomon Dalung is a lawyer and has worked in various capacities in the Nigerians Prisons Service. We don’t know the factors that informed President Buhari’s decision to appoint as a Minister of the Federal Republic but we are sure we have had more than enough of him.
We are counting the days till that cabinet reshuffle and we pray, we pray with all our hearts that this embarrassment of a minister has ‘spended’ the most of his time in office.
It’s (almost) time to go. So long, Solomon Dalung.
