In an interview granted Vanguard News, the Deputy General Manger, Tecno Mobile, Nigeria, Chidi Okonkwo has made known the company’s plans to expand their presence in Nigeria by building a manufacturing and assembly plant.
According to Okonkwo, the project has been on since last year but is still in the pre-investment phase. However, barring any delays and obstacles, the first phase should be completed by Q3/Q4 2015, by which time manufacturing and assembly of Tecno phones can commence immediately.
“We have been working on this since last year. We have already secured the land and have started preparing the site at Epe in Lagos here where it is located and we have to go through to get the necessary approvals. We are making sure that we get everything ready to make sure that this project comes to fruition”, says Okonkwo.
Okonkwo also sheds some light on Tecno’s vision for, and a few challenges the OEM faces in, the Nigerian market. You can read the full interview here.
