As the fight against Ebola continues in African countries, it’s always a relief to hear some good news.
The United Nations on Sunday, January 19, publicly declared Mali Ebola-free following a 42 day period without any new cases of the deadly virus.
It would have been declared earlier in November but a second wave hit the country later into the month.
Mali was the sixth West African country to record the epidermic when a two-year-old girl from Guinea died in the country in October 2014.
Minister of Health and Public Hygiene, Ousmane Koné said in a statement, “I declare on this day, January 18, 2015, the end of the end of the Ebola epidemic in Mali.”
