Terrible: 35 students arrested for cultism in Osun

Thirty five secondary school students with have been arrested by officials of the Nigeria Peace Corps in Osogbo, the Osun state capital.

The students with ages ranging between 13 and 16 were arrested over theor alleged involvement in cult related activities.

According to the commandant of the Nigeria Peace Corps, Ayinde Paul Kayode, they were reportedly apprehended while attending meetings in various schools.

Mr Ayinde who disclosed that the suspects have dispossessed their fellow students of items such as handsets, books, cash, among others, explained that the corps was on the trail of the accomplices of the suspects among whom are some teachers.

According to him, the students arrested were those of Christ Apostolic Church (CAC) Middle School, Osogbo, St Marks High School, Osogbo and St James High School, Osogbo.

Parading the suspected cultists at the state headquarters of the corps, Ayinde said the ages of the students ranged between 13 and 16, adding that the oldest among them was 16.

He said the state chairman of the Parents Teachers Association (PTA), Dr Ademola Ekundayo joined efforts with the corps to ensure the arrest of the suspected cultists.

He also disclosed that various weapons including charms, catapults, broken bottles and Indian hemp weighing 25kg were found on them.

The commandant said the corps would also collaborate with the PTA in the state to rehabilitate the students with a view to making them useful to the society.
