A gas explosion rocked the city of Akure, Ondo State on Saturday night, leaving many dead and several others injured.

According to reports, the explosion occurred at about 7pm and led to a raging fire which affected an unspecified number of people and destroyed vehicles and other property.

Eyewitnesses said the fire started at the station when attendants at the gas station were trying to fill a gas cylinder.

“We just heard a loud explosion and fire coming out of the gas station and we all started running,” they told reporters.
