President Muhammadu Buhari Wednesday, at the first National Summit on Healthy Ageing, has said there are plans to establish regional geriatric centres at tertiary health institutions for clinical care and extend free healthcare services to Nigerians over the age of 60 years, in line with the declaration of the Plan of Action on Healthy Ageing by 2020.

According to a press statement by the director, media and public relations at the Federal Ministry of Health, the Minister of Health, Isaac Adewole, who represented the president at the summit, said the initiatives hoped to extend free medical services to people over the age of 60 years.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) Wednesday, urged the Supreme Court to affirm an order of interim forfeiture made by the Lagos Division of the Federal High Court in respect of the sum of $8.4 million linked to the wife of former President Goodluck Jonathan, Patience Jonathan.

Patience, through her lawyers, led by Ifedayo Adedipe (SAN), argued her appeal before the apex court on Wednesday to challenge the order of interim forfeiture.

She, also challenged the constitutionality of section 17 of the Advanced Fee Fraud Act and other Fraud related offences Act, which was relied on by the Federal High Court t to issue the order of interim forfeiture.


The Nigerian Police, Lagos Command, has described as misplaced, a tweet credited to the head of the Police Complaint Rapid Response Unit, Abayomi Sogunle, that having sex in a car is not a criminal offence.

The Command ’s spokesperson, Chike Oti said it was an indecent act to have sex in a car in a public place not only in Lagos but in the entire country.

He added lovers who engaged in sexual activities in vehicles parked in public places, under Lagos laws, were liable to between two and three years’ imprisonment upon conviction.


The Nigerian Army has organised a private burial which would take place in Maiduguri, Borno, on Friday, for the officers and soldiers killed during terrorist attacks – by Boko Haram – on Nigerian Army 157 Task Force Battalion in Metele, Borno, in November, Punch reports.

“I was invited for the burial of my husband with a few others this Friday in Maiduguri, Punch quotes one of the widows as saying.

“Sincerely, we don’t even know how many will be buried and the army is not giving us any information.”

Tanzania‘s President, John Magufuli has signed a deal for the construction of a hydro-electric power plant in one of East Africa’s best-known game reserves, amid criticism from environmentalists.

Tanzania says the project will double its total power supply. But conservationists warn that it will destroy wildlife habitat.
