President Muhammadu Buhari has called for support for the International Criminal Court (ICC) in jurisdiction over serious cases of corruption.
The President who made the call on Tuesday while delivering a keynote address at the 20th anniversary of the International Criminal Court (ICC) at the Hague, said, “with the alarming proliferation of the most serious crimes around the world, the ICC, and all that it stands for is now needed more than ever, in ways that were unforeseeable to its founders.”
President Buhari also called for increased cooperation with the ICC and financial resources from its member states.
President Muhammadu Buhari has on Tuesday sent a supplementary budget to the National Assembly for consideration for the conduct of the 2019 general elections.
Buhari, through a letter to the Senate, titled “Request for virement and supplementary 2018 budget’’ said the country would need N254 billion to prosecute the 2019 general election which is to be funded from the 2018 and 2019 budgets.
The Senate on Tuesday approved the appointment of Musiliu Adeola Smith as Chairman of the Police Service Commission (PSC) alongside six others as members of the commission.
Others confirmed as members include Justice Clara Bata Ogunbiyi Rtd, Lawal Bawa (AIG) Rtd, Muhammad H. Najatu, Barimoh Adogame Austin, Barr. Rommy Mom and Dr. Nkemka Oshimiri Jombo-Ofo.
Their confirmation followed voice votes by the lawmakers after the consideration of a report by the Senate Committee on Police Affairs.
The House of Representatives has urged the Inspector-General of Police, Mr Ibrahim Idris, to beef up security in 16 communities in Adamawa Southern Senatorial district.
