Some people have argued that whatever the future holds for humans and technology will first happen in Asia, Japan to be specific. As Japan leads the way and shows all the possibilities technology holds for humans in their daily lives, it also shows the very unexpected ways men will use technology to satisfy very primal needs. The first full body sex robots have come from Japan and there are several well-documented stories of Japanese men marrying and treating their full body sex robots as wives and replacement wives and partners for deceased partners and or partners that left them. There are also the Japanese men and women who are eschewing sex and marriage for solitude with technology. But now, they are doing something we’ve only seen in futuristic sci-fi movies until now. They are marrying virtual reality wives.

This video, which was uploaded just last week, is the latest instalment in Japanese anime game ‘Niitzuma LovelyxCaption’, a virtual dating game. This is how they explain the entire concept.

 The concept comes from anime game ‘Niitzuma LovelyxCation’, where the players are able to develop a relationship and have a girlfriend in the VR world. In addition to playing Niitzuma at home, thanks to its creators, fans of the game can now have this virtual marriage ceremony, to bond themselves to their cartoon girlfriends.

This isn’t the first game where physical people can conduct entire lives online. There is the Sims, and multiplayer online role-playing game Half Life, but both games always had physical players, theoretically on the other end of the game, and never really moved past its virtual incarnations into the real world the way Niitzuma LovelyxCaption is with virtual reality. A virtual/physical marriage is pretty next level, and we’ll have to wait and see if this catches on.
