The trailer for animated movie ”Malika: Warrior Queen” is here and Adesuwa Etomi-Wellington as Malika is unstoppable!

The internet is abuzz with the trailer for hotly anticipated animated movie Malika: Warrior Queen, an adaptation of the graphic novel of the same name by Roye Okupe, the CEO of Niyi Akinmolayan who also directed the project. The animation has been gestating for a long time now, recruiting in-demand actress Adesua Etomi-Wellington to voice the lead role of Malika and executive produced by Niyi Akinmolayan of Anthill Studios.

Malika: Warrior Queen is historical fantasy set in 15-century West Africa and follows the exploits of queen and military commander Malika, who struggles to keep the peace in her ever-expanding empire. The trailer is completely thrilling, opening with a match contest between Malika and a male adversary challenging her to the throne. The scene is impressive with the one-liner from Malika: ”I am my own champion.”

Etomi-Wellington imbues Malika with gusto and agility, and it’s beautiful to see her exploring other forms of visual media like animation. Already having a busy year with upcoming movies like Muna and The Set Up, Etomi Wellington is showing the stuff she’s made of. Also, the character of Malika is just what we need in our society fraught with patriarchy where women are constantly subjugated.

Other actors voicing characters in the animation include Femi Branch, Deyemi Okanlowon, Blossom Chukwujekwu and Sambassa Nzeribe. Malika: Warrior Queen will surely be out in cinemas this year and we just can’t wait.
