On Monday, we received with dismay the news of the attack on Zaki Biam yam market in Benue state.
But this was not the first time the town of Zaki Biam was set upon. In 2001, under Obasanjo’s watch, soldiersĀ invaded the town in a reprisal attack for the alleged cold blooded murder of 19 soldiers sent to restore peace in the town following an ethnic violence in the area.
Here’s what poet and international speaker, Juliet Kego has to say about these incidents:
Under OBJ – #ZakiBiamMassacre
Under PMB – #ZakiBiamMassacre
RIP!A horrible deja vu of violence & impunity. Nothing learnt from history..

It's now "Turn by Turn Nig Ltd" – we're distributing sorrow/violence/impunity/deaths, like party jollof rice. Round 2 for Zaki Biam. How sad

If this administration cannot start core reforms in police/security agencies, it can never offer solutions to these spirals of violence.

We need to rise above the convenient, seemingly "valid" ethnic/religious jingoism and use SPECIFICITY to engage govt to address root causes
