TICKER: Not again! Haiti gets hammered by storm

Tropical storm Isaac hit Haiti hard this week, causing flooding and at least three deaths.  The country is still trying to recover from an earthquake back in 2010, so this is the latest in weather disasters.  The storm also hit Cuba, taking down power lines and the like in the city of Baracoa.

Isaac is forecast to hit Florida on Monday and Tuesday, right as the Republican National Convention starts in Tampa.  When it hits, it could become a category 2 hurricane, with winds of nearly 100 miles per hour.

A state of emergency has been declared in Florida by Governor Rick Scott.  Scott is telling vacationers to leave the Florida Keys as well.

In Haiti, a woman and her child died in the town of Souvenance.  A 10-year old girl died when a wall fell down on top of her.  Marie Alta Jean-Baptiste, director of Haiti’s Civil Protection Office, says that 5,000 people have been evacuated.
