“Its about time” | Trump commends NFL boss for telling players to stand during anthem

In reference to the debacle between the presidency and NFL, the football league boss, Roger Goodell has enjoined the players to stand in honour of the flag during the National anthem.

President Trump who has received several lashes over the crisis, however, expressed his satisfaction with the commissioner’s decision, saying it was “about time”.

He wrote, “It is about time that Roger Goodell of the NFL is finally demanding that all players STAND for our great National Anthem-RESPECT OUR COUNTRY”

Goodell in a letter to the NFL’s 32 teams said all NFL players should stand during the national anthem, as the controversy over protests against police brutality by players and their dispute with Donald Trump lingers.

Assuring that a plan was under way to “move past” the debacle, Goodell said, “Like many of our fans, we believe that everyone should stand for the national anthem. It is an important moment in our game. We want to honour our flag and our country, and our fans expect that of us.”

He added, “We also care deeply about our players and respect their opinions and concerns about critical social issues. The controversy over the anthem is a barrier to having honest conversations and making real progress on the underlying issues. We need to move past this controversy, and we want to do that together with our players.”
